Although conference presentations do not go through peer review (unlike journal articles), they do provide an opportunity to see what is coming down the research pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>You can access 68 (!!) <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/start.html#srch=words%7Cmacroglobulinemia%7Cmethod%7Cand%7Cpge%7C1%7CbyDayany%7Cany%7CbySymposiumany%7Cany%7CbyAudienceany%7Cany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">items that mention the word &#8220;macroglobulinemia&#8221; here<\/a>.\u00a0 Of course, you may not want to look at all of them.\u00a0 So here are a very few, that we think may be of interest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First of all, we would be remiss if we did not point out the three presentations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmfc.ca\/2022\/11\/30\/your-donations-at-work-a-breakthrough-in-research\/\">from Dr. Hunter&#8217;s work<\/a> &#8212; as a reminder, this is looking like breakthrough research that you funded through your donations to the WMFC.\u00a0 On the ASH website, those three are <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/Paper170412.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/Paper169863.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/Paper170254.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> &#8212; but you might be better off reading <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ysbT8pvvUoqxp2mIlXsz5a-mihxf-Mv1\/view?usp=share_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the non-technical summary he kindly supplied to us<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The all-Canadian <a href=\"\/2022\/03\/13\/brawm-trial-update-from-dr-neil-berinstein\/\">BRAWM trial, led by Dr. Berinstein<\/a>, which has been presented to us several times, has its <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/Paper169245.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first interim status update<\/a>.\u00a0 An interesting last line: &#8220;initial clinical results show all 8 patients who completed 6 cycles of BR and Acalabrutinib to date have achieved a VGPR&#8221;.\u00a0 100% VGPR?\u00a0 Looking really good, but we&#8217;ll have to wait for more patients to work their way through the trial to see if that holds up.<\/li>\n<li>The clinical trial that our friend and member <a href=\"\/2021\/10\/06\/participating-in-a-us-based-trial-from-canada-during-a-pandemic\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron Ternoway is participating in<\/a>, is also <a href=\"https:\/\/ash.confex.com\/ash\/2022\/webprogram\/Paper159123.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting results<\/a>.\u00a0 The conclusion includes &#8220;In this cohort of heavily pretreated R\/R [relapsed or refractory] WM patients, pirtobrutinib was highly active, regardless of the pattern of prior therapy.\u00a0 The depth of response observed, as demonstrated by the favorable VGPR rate, is noteworthy in the subset of patients with prior covalent BTKi therapy.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a lot to chose from &#8212; which is a good sign that WM is getting some attention in the research community.\u00a0 Your interests may differ from ours, so enjoy browsing through them!\u00a0 (Just do recall, these presentations are not yet peer reviewed.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) conference is an opportunity for the latest hematology research from around the world to be presented.
